Stanozolol

Stanozolol (Winstrol — 17α-Alkylated Oral/Injectable Anabolic Steroid)
AnabolicFDA: FDA-APPROVED (Winstrol: hereditary...WADA: PROHIBITED — Category S1

Overview

FDA-approved for hereditary angioedema. Veterinary approval. Clinical trials for aplastic anemia, growth acceleration. C1 inhibitor research. Notable: 1988 Olympics doping scandal (Ben Johnson) accelerated WADA testing development.

Mechanism of Action

17α-alkylated DHT derivative. Does not aromatize. High SHBG binding affinity — displaces testosterone from SHBG increasing free testosterone. Unique: increases collagen synthesis at low doses, decreases at high doses (relevant to tendon injury risk). Used clinically for hereditary angioedema — reduces C1 inhibitor deficiency severity.
