T3 — Liothyronine Sodium (Triiodothyronine — Active Thyroid Hormone)
HormonalFDA: FDA-APPROVED (hypothyroidism — Cytomel)WADA: PROHIBITED — Category S4...

Overview

FDA-approved for hypothyroidism. Used in metabolism research, body composition, depression augmentation. Shorter half-life than T4 allows tighter titration. Caution: cardiac effects at supraphysiologic doses.

Mechanism of Action

Active thyroid hormone — direct TRβ/TRα nuclear receptor binding. Increases basal metabolic rate, mitochondrial biogenesis, protein synthesis, cardiac output, thermogenesis. 4–6 hour half-life — faster acting than T4. Regulates gene expression for metabolic enzymes. Used in research for obesity, depression, hypothyroidism.
